Every night they have a ceremony that tells of the history behind Mt. Rushmore. After they are done speaking they light it up and ask all military people both enlisted and retired to come up on stage to be honored. I think they had over 60 men and women the night we were there. They do a flag ceremony and have the military people fold the flag. It was very touching. I do not think we as a country honor our military people enough.
One day we took a drive into the Black Hills National Park. It only took about five hours to get all the way around.
The Buffalo roam free. They have the right away. This is a Mama with her baby. We saw hundreds of them. There were all kinds of wildlife. At one point we were stopped to let Donkey's go by and I had my window down to take pictures and one of them stuck its head in the window and tried to eat the camera. The kids thought this was hilarious! I kind of let out a yelp and was moving back as fast as I could.
These were tunnels that we drove through. There were six total throughout the park. The neat thing was that every tunnel no matter where it was you could see Mt. Rushmore going into it or coming out of it. That took some serious planning.
The Kiddos with "Ab" one thing about this trip is that my three year old knows all of these presidents. She can tell you all of their names and where they are on the mountain.
Us with Grandma. This was taken after we spent 10 1/2 hours getting here. I would show you a pictures of what Ernie looked like but he had the camera and was like a kid at a candy store. He loved being there. I think he took over 200 pics. of Mt.Rushmore. I am not for sure how many of those we need. It is not like it changes!

Looks like you guys had a great time. Jeremiah's dad would always take them on "unplanned" vacations. If the farm was doing good and there was nothing to do, that's when they went on vacation. That would drive me CRAZY. I have to plan:)
